Major differences in Recovery statusamong apps

Given my age of 86+, recovery from exercise is crucial. There are major contradictions as to Recovery status among Runalyze, Garmin, and Intervals ICU. ICU today shows I am in the danger zone, Garmin, optional, and Runalyze I’m good to go. Data in each app comes from last 42 calendar days this year. Same numeric input to relevant variables to each app. ICU indicates 10 days before I’m safe (sic) to workout. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong with data input? Tony

@chrism28: On Runalyze, 9/10. Garmin 45 “balance load”. ICU, off the wall high red. Personal, felt energy as seen in Runalyze. Actually surprised because yesterday, while it should have been a “recovery” ride on FulGaz, I felt so good that I pushed it. I was wasted the remainder of the day. Hence the surprise at how good I felt this AM post really good night’s sleep. Tony

@MedTechCD. Followed your advice re Fitness Page. Yep, just returning from injury w/substantial layoff. Absolute #'s make appear to make a better graphic representation. I will also check out additional factors on that page to make sure that they are accurately represented during current time frame. Thank you, Tony

Hey Tony, first off those “Recovery” metrics are likely using different criteria, and therefore I wouldn’t expect them to be consistent.

The key in my humble opinion is to listen to your body and cross reference to those metrics. There is more ART than science in recovery metrics. So start with your feelings and then reference to metrics.

Second, it won’t make a big difference however it might help to adjust your “Fatigue Days” from default of 7 to something higher due to longer recovery versus someone in their 20s or 30s or 40s. On the Intervals Calendar you can change that by adding a Fitness Days calendar entry.

is pretty geeky, so I’ll summarize the original intent of “Form” (TSB) by plucking this out of the article:

Form or TSB “is really better viewed as an indicator of how fully-adapted an individual is to their recent training load, i.e., how “fresh” they are likely to be.”

so its really an adaptive signal, a signal that during recovery or taper you’ve adapted to your training and are “are coming into form” and ready to race at peak fitness. Or similarly, you are coming out of a recovery week and have adapted to the previous 2-3 week training block and ready to start another block.

Your use of Form as some type of “recovery” indicator is a bit of a stretch. Friel popularized the idea of managing training here: Managing Training Using TSB - Joe Friel

Where his idea (IMHO) is that helps you manage training by having guard rails to prevent training to hard or too easy.
