Looking to perform some field metabolic testing and need help

Looking for guinea pigs or experienced athletes who know their physiology.

I’d like to find 3 or 4 people in the north county San Diego area that would be willing to trade work for metabolic data. My primary focus is characterizing athletes and I’m looking to investigate blood lactate concentration versus work rate, general ramp test specifications, and observing VO2Max, VLaMax, and other thresholds.

A typical session would include you coming to my house (or we meet at a local track/trail/venue) and performing a prescribed workout. After the workout, and we can go over the session data. I’ll prescribe the workouts based on what I’m trying to investigate and you’ll get a copy of all data. If you have suggestions on what you’d like to experiment with, I’m open to suggestions. I’m also not trying to throw off your training, so we can tailor the sessions to your current fatigue level.

Bring your own bike or gear. We’ll primarily do the sessions on a Computrainer Lab for bike or at a track for running. You must have a power meter on your bike, though. I’ll provide Stryd for running. I’d like to have the last 120 days of your training data to corroborate the test sessions.

I have a metabolic cart, muscle oxygen sensors, and a blood lactate meter so we can collect all of the necessary data to map a metabolic profile. I’ll provide all data in FIT file and a CSV/XLSX file that can be opened in any spreadsheet software. I have charts for Golden Cheetah and WKO5 to share.

At this point, I can only provide you with the data from the session and some basic interpretation. I am interested in observing and characterizing an athlete, mostly. Training recommendations are something that I’m still learning.

In exchange for my time, all I ask is for a cup of strong coffee or IPA.

Here is an example of the charts I’d like to produce.
