Load calculations for MTB

I did a bit of a search so apologies if this has been covered and I missed it.

During a descent when MTBing, the HR can remain high even if you are not pedalling much (power output is low or zero). How is this taken into account with the load calculations? Or is it not really that important?

Hmm. I am not sure how important that is but it is not taken into account. Depends how many minutes out of the whole ride are spent descending I suppose.

I will sometimes select HR based training load instead of power if I feel that was a more accurate representation of an MTB ride’s load.

Maybe we could have a configuration option that says “choose the load value that is highest” between load from power and load from heart rate?

I have an eMTB now and for my eRides the avg rider power is obviously less (even if I put in the same effort, I get to the top of climbs quicker so the duration is lower), but I am doing more descents and my heart rate is not dropping on the descents. Sometimes it even goes up.
