Load calculation has changed suddenly

Has the way load is calculated using pace for running workouts changed? I haven’t changed any settings at all but the workout below is now showing an estimated load of 64, whereas it was 53 previously. I have noticed the actual load after similar sessions also seems higher than it used to.

The platform is basically unusable for me now because the loads don’t match up with any of my previous training.

 - Warmup 10m z1 pace

10x
 - Interval 3m 03:58-03:50 pace
 - Recovery 1m

 - Cooldown 10m z1 pace

A possible explanation would be that your threshold pace setting has changed, or your Z1 has changed.

No, I haven’t changed any settings. Threshold pace is the same as it was (3:52/km) and I haven’t changed the zones

Which part has a different load? The intervals or the zone warmup and/or cooldown.
To what time period are you referencing? There was a change a while ago for the z1 load. If I remember correctly it is now no longer the midpoint of the zone.

I don’t know how to check which part has a different load. I just noticed something weird. This is the workout in my library with a load of 53 which is what I would expect:

And this is the exact same workout when I go to edit it, now showing a load of 64:

What is going on here?

Open one of the paired workouts from a while ago and compare the Z1 loads.

How do I see the Z1 load?

You know that you didn’t change your threshold in the time between creating that workout and now? This workout uses absolute pace, so every time you change your threshold now and in the future, it will change the load. That’s why i never would use absolute pace. But you did it, and have to deal with it.

I think you overthink the load value.
The tone also isn’t fair for a free platform… it’s hard to want to help if users have this attitude.

Sorry if the tone came across wrong. Of course I am grateful for all the support and I think it is amazing we have such a great tool available for free. I am a supporter of the site.

I honestly haven’t changed the threshold pace though, that’s what is confusing me.

Did you do the workout before? Do you have an older entry on the calendar of that workout? Can you show screenshots of the workout (without clicking edit) where the load is different?

Yes, I have done it before but not for a few weeks due to an injury. This is the last time I did it from my calendar:

I think you did overwrite the load value manually (this might has changed that the load value is now recalculated more often, for example by dragging and dropping to the calendar - I think there was a bug somewhere).

Your recovery has no target value, so that calculation might have changed recently too, but I am not aware of.

I would suggest to always use targets, you could come close to your load calculation of ~53 with a target of 1% pace like:

- Warmup 10m z1 pace

10x
 - Interval 3m 03:58-03:50 pace
 - Recovery 1m 1% pace

 - Cooldown 10m z1 pace

Ah ok yes, I just tested using 1% for recoveries on a few workouts in my library and that results in a load value similar to what I had before. So there does seem to have been a change to how load is calculated for intervals without a target. I will use 1% pace as a workaround. Thanks for your help @R2Tom @MedTechCD
