I’ve had an issue on a ride with my right pedal power meter being wildly inaccurate, is there anyway to view the data from the left sided pedal only? Thanks
Unfortunately Strava only returns a single watts stream with no indication as to which side or anything like that. That said please post a link to that activity so I can check if Strava have made any changes (not likely but worth a look every now and then).
Well yes, in Garmin Connect, if your pedals are compatible. I have for example Assioma’s and before that P1’s. I’d have to look up data from the P1 recordings, but the Assioma’s are compatible, showing L/R channels in Connect. Strava doesn’t care about it, it just takes the combined value of both.
@david - here’s the ride, i think your right, I’ve not been able to find anything regarding l/r power on strava.
@Cyclopaat - I have the Assioma’s as well. How do I view the data in connect? I’ve only been able to find the graph which shows the l/r balance through the ride.
Thanks both
I thought it actually showed two separate channels, but I can’t see anything other than L/R either, plus some other info, like torque, efficiency and position. In your case, just taking x% (L) from the total will not work either, as your balance is probably just as whacked…
The info must be there though, but you’ll need some other program that can display the (second-by-second) input from either pedal separately.
Edit: I’ve just checked a recording on TP, which is actually showing ‘Power’ and ‘Right Power’, the first being the combined L/R value. Not very useful either, but once again, the data is there…
Hi There, I have various power meters and I know what my left right balance is so when using my left only power meter is there a way to apply this left right balance figure to the ride so it doesn’t over estimate my eftp, for instance my average is 47 percent right to 53 percent left which will give me an over estimate if my power.
Thank you
Only if you have a smartphone app with a setting to correct output. In this case, you should adjust -6% because actual 100 Watts will be 53 Watts left and 47 Watts right, so the reported value is 106 Watts. I’m not sure every power meter has this option, but just check it.
I only get a single power trace from Strava and I am not sure what they do re L/R balance. You could use the “Fix Data” option under the ride timeline chart to adjust but that is a bit of a pain. If you send me a link to one of those I will have a look and see if there is anything in the API output that identifies the PM.
Strava doesn’t do L/R balance, whether you have the PM for it or not. It only record/displays the total.
It’s a stages power meter so it doesn’t have the option to put an offset in, at least I don’t think it does that I can find
Yeah, I remember another thread where someone mentioned that the Stages app doesn’t have that option. Strange , because actually most people have an imbalance, but they wouldn’t know if they had only one source. They’d have a problem with their smart trainer sessions though, because of the too high or too low FTP…
I messaged Stages about putting that feature on their power meters a couple of years ago. Their response was basically " our meters are accurate therefore why would we bother"!
Exactly. And they are also schooled enough to know that there is no such thing as a left / right balance difference, which I why they stalled making two-sided power meters, until Team Sky needed them ‘for rehab purposes’. Obviously not a thing for the laymen, which is why they do not sell those to them.
Oh, wait…
Yes unfortunately Connect only shows a lot of dots, making it a bit hard to be really useful. DC Rainmaker has an analysis tool that is quite detailed. It is a paid service and a bit too much money for me to subscribe to for my use. I did buy a few days when I wanted to figure out the correlation between my Stages and Vector 3’s, and it was great value for a few days to get deep into comparing the two PMs.
