I’m a new user here.
I set up my account and imported all of my Strava activities using the strava archive link. It’s important to say that all my activities on Strava are synced to it directly from Garmin.
I am just now realizing that maybe it’s wiser to sync all the data from Garmin, since that will also sync all my health data, and not just the activities. If I already uploaded all the Strava data, what’s the best course of action now? uploading Garmin as well? will the activities be duplicated or does Intervals.icu knows how to deduplicate? maybe deleting everything and start over? I couldn’t find the answer on the forum.
Thank you!
So… I uploaded all my Garmin data, and unfortunately nothing was deduplicated
Is there a way to just restart everything? can I just delete ALL my uploaded activities and re-upload only the Gramin activities?
I’ve made quite a mess of my account and could really use some guidance on how to recover cleanly.
Here’s what happened: I uploaded my full Strava history (years of data) and then also uploaded my entire Garmin export, assuming intervals.icu would deduplicate automatically. It didn’t, so I ended up with a ton of duplicates. Rather than carefully filtering and deleting just the Strava activities, I decided to just delete everything and start fresh.
Midway through mass-deleting activities, I realized how slow the deletion process was for such a large number of activities and stopped. I then tried to undelete everything to revert back to my original plan of only deleting the Strava activities. However, the 1,000+ activities I had already deleted are nowhere to be found — they don’t show up when filtering by “deleted”, and they’re not in my regular activity list either. They seem to be permanently gone.
So now I’m in a weird in-between state: some activities are still there, some are deleted and visible, and over a thousand are just… missing.
At this point I’d like to just cut my losses and do a proper clean slate — delete everything and re-upload only my Garmin data. Before I do that, I have two questions:
Will deleted activities block a re-import? My concern is that even after deleting everything, the activities still seem to exist in some kind of trash/soft-delete state. If I try to re-upload my Garmin files, will the system reject them as duplicates of those soft-deleted activities? Or does deletion fully clear the way for a fresh import?
Is there a smarter way to approach this? Given the state my account is in, is there a recommended workflow to cleanly end up with only my Garmin data — without duplicates and import errors.
Hi @Sagibp , importing from strava is a bad deal, always import from other sources.
Reason is simple: When you import from strava, all data that strava does not use, it strips it from the .FIT file, like shifting data, breading and HRV data from the HR stap, individual power profile from each pedal or crank, and any other sensor information, while the original (at least from garmin) comes complete with everything allowing Intervals to show you that data in your analysis.
Another example is the body temperature from Core, batery levels from your shifting, or tire pressure if you have those, etc.
I record on garmin and import from both strava and garmin. I use strava mostly for the social aspect and group rides and I update titles and descriptions there at the end of a ride, which also updates title and description in icu.
I then get the best of both worlds in icu de-duped, the original recording from garmin and the context from strava.
