Intervals.icu to Garmin Connect

Garmin have announced that training effect can now be calculated from third party apps (phew no more dual recording!) is it possible for intervals to sync a fit file to GC? For example a fit file generated by a wahoo bike computer (either direct to intervals or via Strava).

Thanks

I did some poking around online and looked at the docs I have and I didn’t find any way to do this. That doesn’t mean it isn’t possible. I have emailed their support.

Great, thanks.

Reply from Garmin:

Currently, our API does not supports such integration.

to clarify… they dont allow (intervals) completed upload via API?

Yes no completed activity uploads. They must have a private API for this for bigger partners.

Tx… there goes my thought of requesting access.

Does anyone know of a workaround for this? IFTTT, dropbox, something like that?

Perhaps tapiriik?

I’ve done more digging, and the thing for Training Effect is the manufacturer field in the fit file. Anything that they deem a virtual platform will work (Tacx, TrainerRoad etc) but anything that they consider hardware won’t - if you change the manufacturer to Wahoo using fitfiletools Training Effect will not be calculated.

As the content is identical, I can only assume this is a decision for competition reasons.

So, even if intervals.icu could upload a fit file to Garmin, it would need to transform the original source (Strava, Wahoo etc) to change the Manufacturer to intervals.icu (which would require a request to Garmin).

RunGap (iPhone App) can Fake garmin devices.

I think I saw it was also mentioned that in order for this to happen, the user must own (and have in their GC account) a Garmin device which calculates Training Effect.
