Interesting article on FTP

One word: Xert :sunglasses:

I have decided to not give so much importance on FTP anymore.
I prefer to monitor CP6 and CP20 and CP20/CP6

What do you mean?

Xert: https://www.xertonline.com/ - bye FTP (test) :sunglasses:

I am a long time user of Xert, just want to know what did you mean… I think Xert has very good tools, but it has some problems… I am able to manipulate my TP on it (up 10%) depending on the interval or intervals that I use for a breakthrough… Some people are able to hold TP for 60 min… others for 20 min… I am not a big fan of ramdom threshold estimations like this… I see to many people using TP as FTP and overtraining…

Random threshold calculation? Xert’s TP may be mistaken as a (derivate) of FTP, but it really isn’t. If you take your TrainingPeaks FTP for instance, that is based on a standard test. Xert does no such thing, although doing a BT effort might be considered Xert’s equivalent of that. But the method/math is very different.

If you use Xert and remain stuck in the old FTP ways, you’re using it wrong.

Actually I do not use much FTP for training…
Do not get me wrong… I think Xert is very good for some things… but I still do not think that using any interval to estimate your TP is the best approach… as I told before… depending on the interval or intervals that I choose for my breakthrough my TP will differ by ± 10% (285 vs 315w).

That’s not possible imho, but if tou get a higher number while doing a different interval, then that’s what you’re capable of. Just not necessarily for an hour.

However, I use mainly long MPA draining efforts until I get MPA to drop to current TP and then push extra.

I use TTE for those efforts, so you can pace by setting that to any value that results in MPA draining in x minutes. Sometimes I use 10 minutes, other days 30 minutes.

Exactly how I do it… longer intervals are very good to estimate my threshold… Now try to drain you MPA to TP with very short intervals (10/10s). After that push to BT. I am able to get +30w on my TP easily this way. I do not want to get into what TP represents here… My point is that Xert can estimate different TP depending on the test. That is a well known problem for critical power models as well. Anyway… I think Xert has some strenghts… I am still using it (and intervals… and some other stuff :grinning:)

Agreed. And while I support Xert’s modeling, it’s also rather difficult to use for planning a multi day event.

At any rate, I will not continue my paid membership after the current period, and increase my Patreon contribution to intervals.icu :sunglasses:

Oh, and 10/10’s are not my thing, so I’ll take your word for it, although it still doesn’t make sense :man_shrugging:
