Intensity (AP/FTP) vs Intensity (NP/FTP)

It looks like Intensity for an entire activity is calculated as Normalized Power / FTP, but for an interval or a zoomed (focused) part of an activity, it is calculated as Average Power / FTP. Both numbers are labeled “Intensity”.

Can they be made consistent? Or if there’s a reason to calculate Intensity differently for the two cases, please enlighten me. It seems like if NP is defined for an interval, Intensity can be calculated in the usual way.

Yes, the most common thing to use is intensity using the normalized power everywhere. If it is a very steady effort the result would be the same but for most cases it isn’t, specially with mtb. I tend to look at both average and NP, but for the intensity % I have never used the average one, the NP one is more representative of the physiological cost.
