Indoor power range for planned garmin activities?

Could it be possible to add an option for “Indoor power range” when it comes to cycling activities on garmin as well, or would that complicate stuff with smart trainers?

I cycle on a dumb trainer with on-bike power meter. I know that e.g. TP changes my planned workouts so a 4 min @ 90% FTP would be translated to “4m 3sek power within 85-95%”. I saw that the default option of power source could be changed from lap_power to 3s_power. I know that it’s possible to set the interval yourself, but it would be convenient to have a power range also for indoor workouts.

when workouts are created, you have the option to specify the range of power eg: 50-90% (exaggerated for visual clarity)

IIRC, When this workout is sent to Garmin, Intervals will send the average power to garmin, but it will also show up as a range for you to hit.

Yes, I know that this is possible. This was merely a nice to have request from the lazy part of me for when I (manually) copy workouts from Trainerroad to Intervals.

You could change them to be outdoor and use the outdoor range. I think that will work fine indoors.

I also vote for automatically add a power range in Garmin Connect configuration options for indoor trainings.
I am importing workouts plan received from coach into intervals.icu.
Unfortunetly my garmin watch has no possibility to switch off power alert and trainer is not 100% accurate, so I recieve every few minuts alert about power out of range.
At the same time I would like to use flags describing training such as indoor/outdoor, road/virtual for future statistics review.
Mayby I’m also so lazy, but for hundrets of traininga a year, I can’t be sure that I won’t make a mistake.

That’s why this feature request would be reasonably and nice

Hi David,

Despite indoor not be cheked last Thursday, August 22nd, I got not power range on the workout bellow on my Fenix 7x Pro SS.

Tks,

Changing the workout type from Indoor to Outdoor fixes this indeed, but I can’t help but wonder what is the actual point of there being no range for indoor trainings? Can someone who has a well-supported smart trainer enlighten me?

The only trainer I have available is TechnoGym Skillbike. My Garmin watch is able to control its target power (ERG mode) over ANT+, but there’s a little lag in its resistance adjustments, so the actual power readings fluctuate a little bit. That results in the watch constantly (like every 10 seconds or so) nagging me about my power being too high or too low, even if it’s off by single-digit amounts (like 152W actual vs 155W target).

What happens if one uses a Garmin watch with a more expensive/professional smart trainer (like the KICKR or something)? Does it always report exactly the same number as the power target or are there fluctuations (and thus pointless Garmin alerts) as well? Are these alerts ever useful in ERG mode? (Probably a question for Garmin engineers though…)

this is normal. Tho some trainers have algo that makes them really really really smooth whch is not natural, but looks pretty.

if you have an external (real) power meter, it would fluctuate between 5-20w depending on your pedaling style / PM stated accuracy
