Are we on the same page?
I wonder how TP are getting them numbers to align so? Interesting. I am so used to TP and so used to seeing NP and average align for well executed intervals that seeing 10 and 11 watt differences in Intervals drives me nuts
Fair enough folks. I’ll drop it!! Would love to know how TP calculate this though.
Me too, keep us informed if you find the explanation!
This is how…look here
So it is a 30s rolling average but they start at 30s. Intervals.icu starts at zero. Starting at zero makes no sense to me because you’re using data from a pervious recovery interval to calculate NP on a different interval
Haven’t read the article in depth yet but that would mean that the NP for 3 min interval actually gives a result for the last 2m30sec and the first 30sec of the interval are ignored.
What shows up as NP value when you modify the interval and drop the first 30sec in Intervals? That should then be very similar to what TP shows…
Yes. That’s how I read it too.
It does sound like TP is ignoring the first 30s of the interval. I decided to just cut a section out of the moving average for the whole ride. For short intervals you are probably better off just looking at the average power anyway and for long ones it won’t make much difference. I will see if I can add a sport setting to control this behaviour in future for people who want closer alignment with TP.
Thes @Gerald and @MedTechCD for all the input on this thread.
I haven’t time this evening but tomorrow I’ll try verify if this is indeed what TP do for individual intervals
Edit - just checked NP for last night’s session and TP and Intervals align. 253 watts. So it looks like you’re both calculating the same for entire session, just not individual intervals within that session…
So you don’t need a premium TP for WKO? I had always just assumed you did. What does WKO give you that Intervals doesn’t and vice versa? Is it worth the once off payment?
Edit: I get I can read about it on the WKO site but they’re obviously trying to sell a product. So looking for real life user review
WKO is a once off licence for one computer; it’s a desktop app only, so no mobile version like TP. One can’t even swap between PC and Mac. I can’t remember the cost, but I got a discount when upgrading from WKO4 to WKO5. I see it’s $169, and about $127 rings a bell.
The integration from TP is automatic, and only needs the free account. I have 9 athletes pushing through from TP into WKO.
There’s a free trial option for 14 days. All data in TP will sync as soon as you connect your account.
WKO is divided into Athlete level and workout level, with specific reports and charts for both. The best option is to search YouTube for the WKO5 webinars where Tim explains how to use the system.
Here’s the introduction video: Getting Started with WKO5 - YouTube
There are many charting options and if you understand the expression language, you can build your own charts. Otherwise look for the existing charts in the library.
There is also a closed Facebook group for registered users. Think of it like this forum, but closed to non-subscribers. Lots of knowledge out there.
Edit: in the demo, he shows the search on Workouts and Segments: Powerful part of that software (one of my favourites parts). You might like it as it’s easier to compare. Having said that, Intervals has come so far in the 3.5 years I’ve been here.
