I’d like to share difficulties I have when analyzing activities, and if possible, I’d appreciate any tips or solutions for the issues I’m facing.
First, it’s a general challenge with making selections on the charts in relation to elapsed time. For example, I want to select a segment of exactly 10 minutes at a random point in timeline. I can’t really tell the exact duration I’m selecting because the elapsed time of the selection only shows after the selection is made (it’s one of the “interval fields” I use). Or, for instance, if I select an effort, a section of the route, etc., and I want to extend that selection. The same problem occurs: I don’t know the duration of the portion I’m selecting. Does anyone else run into this? One example of an interface where this is easy is Strava web (via browser). In fact, I often have to go to Strava—if the files are there—just to perform this kind of detailed segment analysis.
The second issue, which directly affects the one above, is that the time bar appears only at the bottom of the timeline. Is there any way to have this time bar also at the top—or even multiple ones for people who use a lot of stacked charts?
Thanks for the reply and for the excellent tutorial. I’ll be able to make better use of the intervals features with your tips, and they’ll definitely help in many cases.
That said, I was specifically referring to selections, because of how quick and temporary they are. For example, during a call with an athlete while reviewing a race, analyzing attacks and reactions, and discussing the tactical scenario—making quick selections is the fastest way to go. But I’m affraid it might require some major changes to the platform’s code and interface. That’s why I want to emphasize again the issue with an elapsed time bar. There’s a plot for distance, but nothing similar for time. Honestly, I’m a bit surprised that no one else has mentioned missing this feature, on the forum.
