Hi,
Can someone give me a layman’s definition and explanation on what HRSS (normalized TRIMP) is? I see under all my swim, bike and run activities that it was set to Average HR, however, recently saw posts on HRSS and that it was a more accurate measure (or something like that). I train by HR as my Number 1 metric so want to make sure it is being accurately calculated in Intervals under my TL. Thanks.
HRSS = Heart Rate Stress Score - A TSS (load) figure assigned if traditional TSS cannot be determined due to absence of a power meter.
TRIMP is “Training Impact”
In this instance your Training Impact is measured by your heart rate (HRSS).
So basically it’s assigning a ‘load’ figure to your workout if you didn’t have a power meter to measure the load.

Thanks @nasatt so if I have a power meter for my cycling then best to measure TSS this way and not via HR, is that right? What would you think is the most accurate?
Yea. TSS, with power, whilst not perfect (eg. Not all TSS is crated equal…you could do a low intensity ride for longer or a high intensity ride in a shorter period and get the same TSS but feel fatigue differently in either scenario) it is the most accurate measure of (external) work done - load. Combined with HR as another data point to measure internal strain will give you a rounded picture of how hard/easy or otherwise your training is.
Ya. 100%
Yep same settings as mine apart form I use time in HR zones for HR load calc (but I never get a calc from this I use as I have consistent power across all my bikes using the same power pedals)
