Hello, new to the community and have a question.
Right now, Boxing activities are coming in from Garmin as Workout activities. Looking in the settings, it seems that Workouts contribute Fatigue but not Fitness. Would that be the best categorization for a Boxing activity?
Thanks,
First of all, you can choose that setting as you wish for each type.
That said, in this context Fatigue means that a boxing session will fatigue your body (respiratory systems and maybe even partially your legs if you are hopping around all the time) similar to other endurance sessions. I haven’t boxed, but done other quite dynamic MMAs, and I would certainly say this is the case. I would not want to have a significant boxing match right after running a marathon, or vice versa.
Fitness means that the activity has “pay-off” for your main endurance sport. Will boxing make you a better runner or rider? Maybe… but probably not so much. Or very indirectly. That’s why it’s turned off by default.
If boxing is your main or only sport, then you could for sure argue for turning Fitness on. Boxing does obviously make you better at boxing, so in this case it’s all good. But if you’re mainly a runner/rider/swimmer, and boxing on the side, then it would likely be better to let it stay off.
Yeah, I saw that you can customize the values per sport and that’s a really nice feature. I just didn’t want to start tweaking things until I understood the intent behind the numbers.
It seems like fitness values is tied to the perceived fitness value that would be gained for the sport or sports you focus on. That makes more sense now. Thanks for the response.
