How HRR is calculated?

Hi all, I’ve been trying to understand how this value is calculated but I couldn’t find it.
I am running a project and I would need to know whats specifically behind that value.
Thanks in advance

Just to make sure we’re talking the same thing, HRR = Heart Rate Reserve = HRmax - HRrest.
So it changes slightly from day to day because your resting HR changes. Max HR normaly is mostly stable over mid to long term.

Thanks for the reply but in this case I meant Heart Rate Recovery.

You can click most numbers in the UI to get a popup explaining the calculation and linking to a source:

HRRc measures how quickly you recover after a hard effort. It is the largest drop in HR over 60 seconds starting from a HR of at least threshold. The general idea is that, the faster or greater your drop in heart rate, the better your recovery - www.pezcyclingnews.com

Thanks David. I had read that but I was looking for something more detailed.

Ah. There isn’t much more than that. If you have specific questions I can try and answer them.

Many Garmin units display the HRR after 2 minutes of exercise, compared to one minutes used here. 3 minutes is also used, and in each instance will give a different value, so make sure you are comparing to the relevant duration post exercise.

Here’s a good start:

Thanks all for the comments and paper.
I understand that threshold is based on the 5 zones division and correspond to 80%-90% of max HR.

Can anybody confirm aboit how “HR threshold” is calculated here?
Thanks

Intervals.icu uses 98% of your highest average HR for 20m as threshold HR. It doesn’t change your zones etc automatically but will give you an achievement when it thinks LTHR has gone up. Of course you might have just been thirsty and hot.

Many thanks David. Sorry for another clarification needed, highest avg for 20 mins in that specific activity or in you historical activities?

It’s that specific activity. if that number is higher than what you currently have set for LTHR for the sport then you get an achievement.
