@Jan_Fineleg no worries! I’ll get some Intervals specific resources created today and confirm a webinar date with the Hexis team and David. Once confirmed we’ll get the details up in this forum.
Conscious you might have a workout this AM that needs fuelling for and recovering from so here is a general guide on how to sync workouts from your training plan
Great initiative, you could do a demonstration on youtube, then it would also be interesting what types of food are available as many of us are from different countries and it is possible that food is not available, it happened to us once with a similar application. I would be interested in offering this to my athletes.
Hi Luisma, I can confirm we have many popular Spanish and German products and barcodes available. Typical supermarket items are from the Open Food Facts database to compliment other government databases. I hope this helps.
hi David,
I am writing to you from italy in order to understand if I can find foods (I don’t think they are translated into Italian) and also how the app works overall is it not possible to have a month of free trial?
Hi @DavidMDunne, i’m trying to connect app to Intervals icu but the the app just tells me ‘only 1 platform can be connected at a time’ no option to continue to link to intervals. I’m not connected to any other platform as far as I’m aware
Hi @Peter_Davies thanks for your message. Can you please ensure you have the latest version of the app downloaded and DM me. I can jump online and help resolve for you no problem
Hi @Fabiomtbbiker thanks for the message! We do not currently translate the foods into Italian but have a wide range of traditional Italian food (the best tasting!). Here is also some demos although we have updated our food logging feature to include image recognition and voice note functionality. I hope this helps?
So I thought I’d give this a go, since you’re connected with Intervals, and bc I’m having some difficulty nailing down proper fueling. Paid for the monthly version and after a couple of days, I have to say it’s hard to see that this is really ready for prime time or a paid first time use. It would be appropriate to offer a trial period (maybe there is, I didn’t see it). A few issues present themselves. The main one is the workload involved in trying to log food and create meals (which is really the point here). The database is not extensive and obviously not as comprehensive as Cronometer or MFP, and so creating recipes is such a drag, and hit or miss with lots of guessing and finding “similar” items that “may” reflect the food I’m using. I’m actually not going to mess with it anymore (at least for now until it matures and I don’t have to do the work that AIs and databases should be doing). One UI issue I noted is when I go to favorite a food on my iphone 15 max pro, the list went behind the keyboard and I could not scroll to the bottom and select an item.
Hi @Jamie_Smith thanks for your feedback and I will pass on to the team. If you have time I’d love to gather more of your thoughts on a call? It can be particularly helpful to us to learn from your experience. You also mentioned the workload of logging, have you tried the voice logging feature using the prompt “portion, quantity, food”, e.g. for breakfast I have 3 medium eggs, 1 slice of toast and a black coffee. We’ve found the voice logging to significantly reduce the effort required and perhaps this may be one to explore further.
In terms of recipes, we have built our own database of over 1,000 (a sample can be found here). We will release this feature into the app this side of Christmas
Hi @Luisma_Gallego_Soy_P sure. There is a list of videos here is also some demos although we have updated our food logging feature to include image recognition and voice note functionality. I hope this helps!
Hi @DavidMDunne! Hexis looks really cool. I had a question along the lines of international cuisine. I have a mostly vegetarian diet (eggs ok) consisting of primarily Indian food. Does the database cater to vegetarians? Does it offer Indian dishes? I’m assuming those can be added by the user?
Thanks @CmdrMac appreciate it! The database of foods will cover a range of Indian foods and dishes. Once recipes added we also have a range of traditional Indian dishes included too
@DavidMDunne@steve_neal I am finding Hexis too buggy to use. Sometimes it saves the foods I add, sometimes it doesn’t. When I change the time of a meal, it doesn’t “take“ and the time remains at the default. When I add food to a meal, sometimes it pops into another meal. When I add nutrition to a future activity, it doesn’t save it.
Not sure if you made a decision following your answer from @DavidMDunne or @Cristina_Nardin but thought I’d add another voice having been someone who has used both apps extensively. I first used Hexis a couple of years ago (I think I was quite early in its development) and found it to be extremely useful in training for Ironman. I really saw a benefit from the way the fuelling plan adapted to the demands of the session and how the meals and snacks were differentiated through the day. I stopped using it when I spent a season doing some functional fitness racing, as I didn’t perceive there would be the same benefit in terms of needing to periodise carbohydrates to maximise fat burning. During that time I saw the foodcoach app introduced so thought I’d trial that as a way of keeping macros monitored and seeing what the cheaper option delivered. I have been mostly impress with foodcoach - I think their increased food recognition recently has made a big improvement and I generally find the macro and calorie suggestions help me ensure I’m fuelling to a sufficient level.
However, having gone back to Ironman training, I have to say the way foodcoach “adapts” to my training seems to be much less beneficial than Hexis. Whilst it moves in line with general guidelines in terms of calorie and macro suggestions, it does not currently consider the intake of these throughout the day, rather it just spreads them equally across meals. I find this often leaves me in a calorie deficit for long periods of time, something I was able to monitor with the energy availability graph on Hexis. There is also little to no adjustments made relating to carbohydrate manipulation along with the “fuel for the work required model”, which I think is an area of use for those in long endurance events (like Ironman).
So in summary, I was about to shift back to Hexis when my foodcoach subscription elapsed soon, but when I saw this integration notification pop up the shift has happened quicker.
