Heart Rate Wobble after Max Anaerobic Efforts

Hello
I’ve been getting strange HR wobble for well over a year when emptying W’ after max anaerobic efforts. Usually hill climbs, ranging from 1 min to 4 min out of the saddle.
My HR ‘pings’ around max and sometimes oscillates/jumps up and down during recovery. I can’t feel anything strange at the time other than being very out of breath and desperate for recovery.

I’ve seen a cardiologist and had stress tests and a ultrasound and they were unconcerned, but couldn’t replicate the issue on a treadmill.

Could it be caused by moving from standing to sitting position? Would be very interested if anyone has similar HR plots? Normally my recovery is nice and smooth. (p.s I’ve tried different chest HRMs and an Optical sensor and they all show the same plot)

Maybe stupid question, but what chest strap do you have? My previous Polar H9 was making similar almost always while riding downhill, maybe because of static electricity from jersey fluttering in the wind. Polar H10+ with doubled electrodes never makes this to me.

yep, its a polar H9, but riding indoors with fans blowing. I’m usually wearing a loose fitting nylon/poly sports top.
The climb effort is done standing and then I sit back down and try to recover.

Its a definitely a good suggestion, I’ll look into an H10

ok, any cardiologists in the house?
I’ve seen one and had an ultrasound and they couldn’t find anything. But when I empty my W’ through an anaerobic effort I get a 20bpm spike to almost max HR.

These are two efforts on the same route 3 months apart, note the 20bpm jump.

This tends to happen on the first big emptying of W’, on subsequent intense efforts the recovery is smooth and normal.

Things I’ve considered;

  • Posture change on the bike, seated/standing
  • Hitting the wall
  • Nervous tension or adrenaline
  • faulty HR monitor (not this as it happens on all monitors)

If it’s same even with another HR monitor, I’ll push the doctor to make you the stress test on bike with ECG connected.

Remember with the right software a Polar H10 can draw you a simple ECG, in case you want more material to bring to that doctor.
