Do you all also sometimes have that irresistible urge to be gone with the wind?
I have a few of those around here. Not KOM on any though. My favourite one has traffic lights for 1st half so you have to get lucky but is 15km and often with 50km/h tailwind.
A guy came up to me a couple of years ago and said âYou are beaten. I got youâ. Turned out that on one of the local secments, 5 km, on a road very much used by cyklist, I had hold the top for almost two years.
Being one of the elders, I never checked this part of the sport. I did remember having taken the track with a storm in my back, and an avg. a good step above 50 Km/h. Since, I have had a habbit of checking the wind speed and direction before leaving home. You never know.
I only made the segment just before I went out, from an earlier ride, so I will not very likely âenjoyâ this KOM for very long. I didnât even go all out, as it was my third activity of the day, but I couldnât resist the temptation.
All long stretches, of which we have plenty here, are having KOM times of 55 - 60 kph, either with a tail wind, or behind a derny (motor, or even a car). A breeze of 25 kph elsewhere, easily becomes a 50+ kph storm in these parts, as there is nothing but empty flats. With cross winds, itâs sometimes a menace, especially when a truck passes.
I may get out again on this stretch tomorrow, or try the dike, a bit more northâŚ
Strava mentions a 35.5 kph wind from the east, Garmin puts it at 39 kph. So, the gusts will have been around 50 kph. Official weather sites mention 5 Bft (29 - 38 kph)âŚ
Still holding it - there are now 69 registered timesâŚ
