Garmin Sync or Swim

Proud new user here! Will connect to coaching here from training peaks when business picks back up. I’m loving the progress in feature updates.

Enough chit chat. I have issues. At least that’s what my parents tell me.

I had no problems syncing Strava but it only got a few months, so I synced with Garmin and selected old data. It began importing duplicates of the swims but very short durations. I haven’t checked all the data but the current and recent history is messed up, and only swims, as far as I’ve noticed.

Here’s screenshots of the activity page, the bad stuff and the good stuff

It also looks like the scheduled swim workouts aren’t uploading to Garmin, but the others bike and run workouts are.

Do you mind sending me a .fit file for one of those “short” swims. Tx.

I have fixed the problem with swim workouts. Garmin doesn’t like it if you do not specify a pool length. Will deploy Sat AM (GMT+2).

Glad you like the service. Swimming has a few rough edges I am sure but will fix.

Thank you!

The pool length should be set on my Garmin and Apple Watch.

Do you still need the files?

Yes just one of those “short” swim .fit files so I can fix the import.

The Garmin Connect training API rejects swim workouts that don’t have pool length set. Presumably whats actually set on your watch will count when you do the workout.

Sorry, finally got to it. It won’t allow me to upload here. I’ll try to message you.

I emailed you. I think your email is david@intervals.icu ?

I have sorted out importing the “short” swims. Will deploy Tuesday AM (GMT+2).

I think this issue was fixed a few weeks ago, even after i click Garmin Connect Sync to do a new sync it still seems broken.

Maybe the gaps is the drill mode in swim? It seems so, you can compare to Garmin Connect but maybe this is messing up the Pace and Load of the activity?

Thanks for the attention

Yes its the drill mode lengths that are the problem. They have zero avg_speed and cadence. I will see what I can figure out.

Drill mode lengths now use the elapsed time for the length and the length of the pool to calculate average speed. So hopefully this sorts it out. Will deploy Thursday AM.

Thanks David, seems fixed. Had to do a new Garmin Sync button for this activity, do we need to do it for all swim activities or it will happen a bulk sync under the hood?

Really thanks for this, Swim workouts seems now to be very stable, with all main features we need

Before and after hitting the Sync button

I need to get on that bulk update work to make these kind of fixes easier. But I will deploy something to fix your swims in the meanwhile (and anyone else who has similar issue).

I am going be working on the new bulk edit stuff tm. So hopefully can get “search for activity type” and re-process .fit file implemented.

You can now use the activity list view to find all your swims and re-process them … but it looks like you did that already:

I am still busy revamping the activity list view on the calendar page but this part is working already.

I had some free time in my hand :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the feature, looks amazing.

Hi All,

I also have a question about Swim workouts. I’ve used Garmin to track my Swimming session, and also HRM PRO for tracking HR. I’ve uploaded the activity to Garmin Connect and it imediatelly transfered to Intervals.ICU. However, the HR rate was not downloaded from HRM PRO yet, so I’ve redownloaded the HR rate on Garmin, and it got fixed on Garmin Activity, but not on Intervals.ICU… no idea why… I’ve also deleted the activity on Intervals and reupliaded it from Garmin, but the HR rate is still inconsistent

Hmm. I had a look at this one: Intervals.icu

Only a few of the lengths have speed info and that is messing up the pace charts. The distance for the activity is also 250m which doesn’t seem right since there are some 55 lengths. These swim files are a pain!

I will have to see what can be done about it …

David,

Please have a look at this one: Intervals.icu

The reason for such bad files is the fact that we are doing Apnea swimming (underwater), and there is a lot of breakes, etc. Garmin app is really bad at recognising turns etc, and also I did not use intervals corectly on the one you checked. The last one should be better. My only aim is to monitor HR versus the Interval. Because distance is usually wrong (dont know why). For this activity I also used a custom App SwimSports+ from Garmin IQ store, which does better recognition of distance.

Hope this helps!

Btw - amazing work you are doing here, with support and the App itself! I will contribute for sure for your hard work!
