Garmin devices automatically target Treadmill activities as Treadmill Running.
Is there a way to make Strava (and therefore Intervals) to recognize as an “indoor activity” ?
There are some guides to edit the activity on Strava and mark it as “stationary” but this does’t not reflect on Intervals.
The way I’ve found is to manually change the activity to “Virtual Run” but IMHO a plain Treadmill activity is not to be consider a “Virtual Run” which should be derived from any kind of simulator that gives you a track, ascend, etc of the simulated run.
Would be the case to create a new activity type ? (Treadmill Run or similar)?
I don’t sync from Garmin so I’ don’t know what is the equivalente activity type for a plain treadmill one.
Hi Gato,
Did you find a solution for this?
I have sort of the same issue. It’d be great to have a Treadmill activity besides Run, Virtual Run and Trail Run.
Thank You
These are the running types supported by Garmin at this moment:
Indoor running: running on an indoor track I guess??
Virtual running: running a simulated course on a treadmill??
Treadmill running
But it’s about the same for cycling. Indoor cycling could be track cycling while most of us, use it for structured training on a trainer. Virtual cycling then being Zwift, IndieVelo,…
To be honest, I log all my indoor rides as Virtual rides.
Let me clarify.
I don’t feed Intervals directly with Garmin but Strava.
A Treadmill activities come to Interval like Type=Run and marked the Trainer check box.
There is no Indoor Running or Treadmill at Strava.
In my case, the information does come from garmin, where I use the treadmill option, and there is no “treadmill” option on intervals.
Sometimes i use the virtual running option on my Garmin, which is synced with Zwift to perform the activity, in that case i use the Virtual Runnin on intervals.
That’s why i think it’ll be a great option to have a treadmill activity on intervals.
Wouldn’t sticking with “Run” and adding the “trainer” flag be better? Running on a treadmill and running on a track or outdoors are more or less the same right? Different to a “Virtual Run” in a simulated environment.
David, now that Garmin added more running profiles it’s complicated.
Garmin profiles in a FR965:
Virtual Running - You can “pair” your watch with Zwift in order to get pace, distance,etc
Track Running - Garmin claims better precision iusing a huge track library from around the world
Trail Running - uses climb pro and other features specific to trailrunning
So thats why i think a stand alone “treadmill” option would be a nice option
Treadmill is like an indoor (bike) trainer without any virtual software. You can record time, HR, virtual distance based on stride length * cadence, etc.;
Virtual is connected to a 3rd party app to virtually complete a route. This would have speed/pace, distance, elevation, and all the metrics from outside, but done in a virtual world;
Run would be a normal activity, outside in real life.
Then Road, Track, Trail running etc., are like Road, MTB, Gravel, Enduro, Downhill, etc.
