I have just updated the fit SDK which should fix that for future activities. For old stuff you need to do Actions → Reprocess file to get the new name.

Hi David,
My Fenix 8 shows as Garmin 4536. Does the mapping already exist in the fit SDK, and if so can you please correct it?

I have updated the Fit SDK and will deploy on Thursday. Intervals.icu was less than 2 months out of date so strange that Fenix 8 wasn’t there already. It is now.

Hi, since saturday, I’m running with a Fenix 8 pro but in the right top corner where the source of the files is it says Garmin 4631. Could someone look into this please? It’s nicer if it shows correct (for future reference). Thanks guys, your site is awesome.

It turns out that Garmin now supply a device name along with the activity from their API. Intervals.icu will now use this instead of the device name from the file. The Garmin supplied name seems more up to date. This will be deployed Thursday AM.

Thanks for this. Unfortunately historic activities with incorrect device names aren’t corrected by Reprocessing the File. Any help would be appreciated!

Garmin restrict historical data fetches so Intervals.icu can’t “refetch” old activities from the Garmin API to get better device names. Reprocessing might fix some of them. Intervals.icu updates the fit SDK when new versions come out and newer SDK versions have more up to date device mappings.

Yesterday’s run with Forerunner 970 showing up as Garmin 4565 again after a few weeks of working properly…

I can’t see any reason for that in the logs (no errors). Maybe Garmin didn’t send it? Anyway I have added more logging so if it happens again I will know.

I just recently had a look at this because my BreakAway app seems to duplicates issue and what I can tell is Garmin is supplying a Device name that seems to be bordering on random.

eg:

This is data coming from the same watch but is being sent to Intervals as different name. I’m not entirely sure, but could this be the reason why Intervals.icu is not doing the dedup correctly?

I’m uploading directly from BreakAway to Intervals.icu/Strava/Garmin and I end up with 2 diff files in Intervals.icu (Prev everything dedups correctly and I only have 1 workout)

Garmin are now filtering the FIT files returned by their API and no longer return the original file (downloadable manualy from Garmin Connect). Maybe it is something to do with that?
