FTP increased on the 12 minutes

Hello.
I have a question regarding FTP. I’ve just done a ride and I got an e-mail saying that my FTP was increased by 6w. “FTP +6 to 293w from 12m at 322w”
I’d like to know how this is measured. I was checking on Strava on the POWER CURVE and it says my best 8 minutes was 334w. As I know, 334 x 90% = 301w. I’m just asking this because I only know the 20 minutes and the 8 minutes test for FTP.
Thank you!
Fernando

For the 8m test as far as I know you need to do 2 efforts and average the power then do 90%.

Intervals.icu uses a generalisation of the 95% of 20m rule for any duration. So 12m at 322w gives you a higher number than the 8m at 334w for your curve. So at that level it is using 91% of your 12m power (293/322 = 0.909).

It’s actually a bit more complicated because there are many curves and different sets for male and female but thats the general idea.

Great. Thanks David!!!

Hi @Fernando_Brasil. An 8m effort on its own has too much of an anaerobic contribution. As efforts get longer, they are more aerobic. FTP is intended to entirely aerobic. 12m is about the minimum duration to be able to estimate a threshold effort with the least anaerobic contribution.

You can set the minimum duration effort for use in the eFTP model in seconds. So by setting the minimum value to 720s you will only use efforts longer than 12 minutes.
