Form, Fatigue, freshness

Yes, yesterday we intended to ride as a group at the slowest riders max. Got into the middle of a really well disciplined group and all thoughts of working for the weakest went out of the window and testosterone took over :see_no_evil:

lol that usually happens

do you have them?

Yes, in fact I had Garmin Vectors but sold them and bought the Assioma’s instead. Vectors give a little more data, but that doesn’t, in my mind, make up for the extra cost and the fiddly battery change with them.

My club has lost a few members because they don’t like being held back on their rides. They have joined other clubs in the area and are now complaining that the rides are too fast or too slow, and they can’t keep up.

Not everyone is on a training plan with me, in the club, but the basic rule applies:

Hard workouts are done in the week
Long, endurance/tempo rides are done on weekends; unless the trained group is racing.

It’s difficult getting our club members to cooperate as well. I’ve been trying for a year now to get them to work as a team, works for one ride then gets forgotten. Not sure what the answer is

This is what worked for me:

  1. Communication sent out asking for suggestions.

  2. Consolidating the common responses as the core rides. Weekly rides are communicated on a Thursday before the weekend;

  3. Special rides once a month, or quarter, to cater for the one off requests;

  4. If a member is unhappy, they must say something or remain unhappy.

  5. Allowing the faster members to sprint for the town sign/t-junction, providing they turn around and ride back with the rest. They need to then pace the group for the balance of the time;

  6. On-the-road communication to ensure they’re all reminded of the goal for the ride should they start deviating from the plans;

  7. All weekend rides are progressive towards a few goal races selected for the year. There’s an early bird ride that starts 75 minutes before the club ride. This gives the opportunity to those wanting extra distance/time without interrupting the main ride.it starts and finishes at our meeting point. This was, and still is, the best change we made;

  8. Consistency. Not in the route, but in the rules of each ride. Members know an advertised route won’t be changed at the start, so if they’re late they can slot in along the route (if convenient).

  9. Skills (pacelines) done on rides depending on the needs. As a club coach, I guess it’s my duty to give guidance when there are mad habits creeping in.

  10. Have fun.

I’ve also been doing it for 18 years, so while small thing might change from year to year, the basics remain the same.

Organising for 20-30 people is much easier than 200 when the groups need to be split by ability/speed. Then finding someone that is strong enough to manage the group is also a challenge.

Good suggestions, we’re trying to do something similar, but where you have 2 Norwegians you have 3 opinions and then testosterone takes over :see_no_evil:

Our problem is a bit delicate to discuss publicly but me and a couple of others are trying to address the situation and get back to being a club.

Right handed, left leg dominant especially on lower intensities, about 54/46.
Tends to even out when riding tempo zone or above. I have never been able to influence that and multiple online sources confirm that there is very little you can do. And if you try, most of the time it turns out to influence total power in a negative way.
Assioma duo here since three years and very happy with them. Easily transfered to my second bike on the turbo during winter.

Leg imbalance can be due to leg length discrepancies, previous injuries, musculoskeletal issues upstream or downstream, nerve impingement, biomechanical asymmetries due to various factors including asymmetrical sports especially in developing years, and fascial tightness due to all of the above.

Assioma Duos +1, tho the battery decided to die (v fast) JUST after warranty expired on my right side. Assioma did offer a discounted price to replace the spindle, but I didn’t take it up.

So now it’s back to charging it like every 2-3days (lasts about 300km)

Thats sad to hear. I have 2 pairs not had a problem with either. (touch wood :see_no_evil:)

I was something like 55/45 in favour of my left leg. Did the one leg workouts and concentrated on my right leg when peddling and managed to reduce it to 51/49, so it can work. Don’t bother so much now though, but do concentrate on creating as round a peddling technique I can without going overboard

My thing is not imbalance (could be but i only have powermeter on my left side, so i dont know) as it is torque efficiency (around 73% on the days i push more, less on the lighter days). This torque efficiency is not about imbalance but about pedalling efficiency, ideally your number is higher if on the way up you have less weight on the pedal so you are not making it slower on the way up.

Definitely im going to buy those pedals!

Not sure why I went off at a tanget David, probably didn’t read your comment thoroughly enough. NOt sure what my torque is, that doesn’t get shown on Assiomas. I get it on Perfpro whilst training indoors but its not something I have concerned myself too much about

i see, i have been doing lately some flat terrain activities trying different ways to pedal, and watching videos on the technique, i didnt even know there was a technique lol. Now what im doing is try to not let weight on my foot on the way up, im not trying to pull as ive read in other places, just push on the way down (a bit earlier in fact) and try to lift the heel a bit on the way up

Im ready for Saturday event :slight_smile: my friend is going to do the long version (197Kms, 4000+) and he has been pursuing me for 4 days now trying to convince me to do it, for him and on his own words: ‘its only 80 kms more!’ and i wouldnt be riding on my own but with him, but i declined, i prefer to do things little by little, probably unless i have a bad day im finishing the shorter 117k, 2800+ as ive already completed 126k, 2600+ training on my own, but i prefer to be safe, learn my 1st ever cycling event which im sure i will get a bit nervous etc and let the long one for the next time

Good thinking! Go with what feels comfortable now and boost your self confidence by finishing that event.
