"Compare intervals" , like "Compare activities"

Good morning,
it would be nice to be able to manage and compare your own custom intervals like you do for “compare activities”; rename the interval with any name ( this can already be done ) to be able to identify and compare them . I rename an interval that ends up in my “database” ready to be compared with the same interval but walked maybe 10 times in previous years .
If I run an activity that inside has an interval already saved , it should be recognized and automatically entered into the activity intervals…
Strava intervals suck and if you don’t pay no you can analyze anything ( and I don’t want to pay strava ).

I don’t know if already present this option( and maybe explain it to me  )or maybe if someone has a better idea how it could be done …

Thanks

I do have “smart segments” on the todo list which sounds like what you are asking for. The idea is to automatically create intervals for previously saved ones based on GPS start and end points when the activity is analysed.

What you can do now is select an interval and use the search button to find activities with similar intervals on the compare activities page by intensity and duration:

Yes @david that’s what I’m looking for…now I can make comparisons on duration and intensity segments but they could be very different segments, not the same segment.
When do you think it will be implemented?

Thanks again

I still miss the old feature you had called “compare intervals”… Why did you remove it?! It was very cool! I understand one also want to compare activities, but I like to see my power over time for specific intervals…

I believe that a fantastic use case for this would be to compare intervals (like medium/long sub-threshold intervals) where lactate measurements were taken. To my knowledge no other app as a feature like this, while at the same time “everybody talks about lactate”.

A typical use case for me :

  • record lactate measurement for a given interval (interval field, functionality already exists)
  • possibly tag / name the inverval
  • build a dynamic list of intervals : where lactate date is present, possibly filtering on duration or distance or pace/power
  • have a table (which is already a good comparison starting point) with custom columns
  • same with plots

Wait, there was a compare intervals feature which was removed ? So sad :frowning:

To me it makes much more sense to compare intervals (across activities) rather than activities. For example activities can have different warm up, different number of reps (of the same “interval-type”), different cool down, rest, etc. but yet comparing intervals can be interesting.

Well if I’m not totally ring here, yes. Since when do you use intervals? I think 1 or 2 years ago there was such a feature. But the author will let us know

I, too, would like the ability to compare intervals from different activities. My use-case is hyrox specific, so I might be a bit of anomaly here. Since I’m frequently performing an entire race (which always has the same intervals (8x1km run, with workouts in between), comparing not only the activities but also the intervals within those activities is super insightful data.

I run the same route most days, and there’s a Strava segment I track my performance on. I’d love to be able to see how my metrics compare from day to day.

I don’t want to compare whole runs, because sometimes I run the segment once, and sometimes twice.

Hi, maybe not directly related to the topic, and sorry in advance for a bit of self-promotion. But the ability to do in-depth comparison of intervals was one of the main things I had in mind when I was building AI coach for my own use. I wanted to give AI tools that will allow it to look at the data, like human coach would do it. It can show you different charts and you can follow up with more questions.
