Combine / merge adjacent activities into one on intervals

Hi,

When doing zwift races I usually end up with warmup, race and cool down in three activities on intervals. (Same goes for some IRL races sometimes, but then I can avoid it if I want to)

My calender is a mess sometimes with 5-6 activities on one day…
I know its been asked for before, and I know it is possible to export the fit-files and use fitfiletools to merge activities. But its kind of an hassle to do this every time.

It would be really really convinient if you could go into an activity on intervals, and select “Actions” and “Merge with previous” or “Merge with next”, and then it would show these activities as one continous one… Plus maybe an “Unmerge activity” function also.

Merging activities that have no overlap and where no dev fields are present (or can be dismissed), is probably not too difficult. That’s what FitFileTools does. Though, you still need to develop an algorithm that works out what needs to be done with the time and the position jump.
Anything else is a daunting task…
With overlaps and when GPS points are present, you need an algorithm that interpolates the partially overlapping GPS points to avoid back and forth traces caused by the slightly differing GPS coordinates. That’s going to mess with speed/pace/elevation.
Reworking dev fields to get them into the exported file is also very difficult.
Merging files from more then one device to combine stream data is a nightmare and keeping a software suite up to date to do this, is a full-time job on its own.

Why not just use the lap button post warmup and post race.

If it is of any use, what I do to avoid my calendar becoming cluttered is to have #warmup and #cooldown tags and then use a filter in the options to hide them.

Im not talking merging from several devices or overlapping data.
Zwift activities will never have overlap.
I guess you could use the activity from where you select “merge with previous” or “merge with next” as master and just show them together in one graph, and as a summed together

@nasatt , Lap button is not an option with Zwift stuff unless you double record with Garmin and then delete the Zwift activities. But then you loose distance, altitude, speed…

@badger88 , tags and filtering is a great idea for keeping the calender lett cluttered. Didn’t think of that. But I kind of prefer having the warmups and cooldowns within the same activity I think. Its still “one workout”…
