Hi all,
I’m Vincent, a coach working with cyclists and triathletes in Belgium.
Together with my friend Nick, who handles the IT and development side,
I’ve been building Breakout Training around my coaching and testing work.
It connects your test results with training towards your goal and personalised
session fuelling, alongside Intervals.icu. We’re opening 15 free beta places
for athletes and coaches from this community.
The training engine is deterministic: decisions come from rules and
calculations, with no LLM making them. The same inputs and engine version
produce the same result. Measured results and estimates are clearly
distinguished, missing data stays visible, and you or your coach review
the plan before publishing workouts to Intervals.icu.
The workflow is straightforward: connect Intervals.icu, add your test results
or start with a clearly labelled FTP estimate, then build or generate training
around your goal and available time. Review and adjust the workouts and their
fuelling guidance before publishing the sessions to your Intervals.icu calendar.
What you can try
-
Put your tests to work. A lactate step test uses your recorded curve
to determine LT1 and LT2. Suitable gas measurements can also inform your
substrate-oxidation profile. A three-effort cycling Powertest estimates
VLamax and MAP. Results show whether they were measured, calculated from
a test, estimated or set by you or your coach. No test yet? Start with
an FTP test, your entered FTP, or the FTP/eFTP available from Intervals.icu.
Estimates stay labelled as estimates. -
Plan towards your goal. Bike and run planners use your recent training,
goal race and the hours you have available each weekday. You can inspect
and adjust the plan; edits made in Breakout survive regeneration. There’s
also a structured workout builder for bike, run and manual swim sessions. -
Connect training with fuelling. See estimated carbohydrate use and
fuelling guidance for supported sessions and training days, plus supported
race pacing and fuelling plans. Estimated burn and planned intake are
shown separately. Cycling includes a metabolic profile, fuel curve and
race bottle planning; not every cycling feature has a running equivalent.
How it fits with Intervals.icu
Intervals.icu already provides eFTP, “CHO used”, workout building and a calendar.
Breakout connects your test profile, completed training, available recovery
signals and goal with what to train next and how to fuel it. Intervals.icu
stays your history, calendar and device connection. Coaches can manage athletes,
review their profiles and plans, and build and publish workouts on their behalf.
Results include references where there is a published source. As a coach,
I want you to be able to compare the outputs with your own tests and experience;
repeatability does not turn an estimate into a measurement.
Beta scope and access
Cycling and running are the main focus. Duathlon plans are experimental and
have not completed a full-season coaching review; race-day support currently
includes a bike pacing band, without duathlon run pacing or race fuelling.
Swimming is manual workouts only. Automated swim and triathlon plans, plus
standalone nutrition and meal-planning tools, are reserved for a later release.
The interface and translations are still being refined.
Connect with your Intervals.icu athlete ID and API key. Detailed activities
must reach Intervals.icu directly from your device or through a .fit upload:
Intervals.icu cannot share detailed activities received through Strava. Recorded
daily load can still inform planning, and Breakout flags missing activity detail.
Free during the beta; paid subscriptions at launch. To join, DM me the email
address you’ll use to sign up, and we’ll send an access code and signup link.
Coaches: bring an athlete and we’ll help you both get set up. There are 15 places
in this round, then a waitlist at breakout.training.
Please keep email addresses out of public replies.
Does your profile make sense against your tests? Is the training and fuelling
useful in practice? Tell us where you get stuck, here or through the in-app
feedback panel. We’ll keep shipping fixes and improvements during the beta.
Thanks,
Vincent & Nick
