I use TrainerRoad, and currently sync its workouts to Garmin Connect and Strava, and then import from Strava to Intervals.icu. Problem is, none of the L/R balance data from my PM pedals makes its way into Intervals.icu. Is there a better way to do get TrainerRoad data into Garmin Connect and Intervals while bypassing Strava? How do you all have yours set up? Thanks.
Data from Strava will strip out L/R data.
TR → GC is OK, but I think since some months back, GC stopped sending out NON-Garmin recorded activities via it’s API.
you can try tapiriik.com
If you have a Garmin Head unit, the obvious solution is to have it record your TrainerRoad sessions too.
That’s what I was afraid of. It would have been great to just send TR → GC → Intervals.
Yeah, I did this for a while, but I really like not having to press the Lap button at the beginning and end of every interval. I know that Intervals.icu is good at detecting intervals, but I usually end up selecting “Use Laps” on my Intervals activities anyway.
Thanks, I’ll check this out. I wonder if others have had success getting tapiriik (or other fitness syncing apps) to transmit the raw data without stripping out stuff like L/R balance as Strava does.
In hindsight, I think the premise of my original question is flawed. TrainerRoad does not record any of the cycling dynamics that my power meter pedals put out. So it’s not that Strava is stripping it out, it just isn’t there to begin with. Which means I guess if I really cared, I could resume the practice of recording on my Garmin head unit. Luxury problems…
I never used TrainerRoad so I don’t know how easy or difficult it is to send the workout to Garmin but I send my workouts from TrainerDay to the TrainerDay app and to Garmin Connect. From Garmin Connect to my head-unit and I start the trainer app and the head unit simultaneously. So I don’t have to press the lap button…
It’s a bit more work in preparation but it makes sure to have the correct intervals.
been some time since i used tapiriik tho I remember that they sync TCX (not FIT) into my dropbox folder. (TCX doesn’t support L/R)
Personally I use Dropbox as a feed to Intervals.
Link TrainerRoad to Dropbox and then add the folder in Intervals and it adds the workouts on the next page view.
Assuming that it’s there, (meaning Strava data is coming from your Garmin Head Unit), Strava will still strip it out is what I’m reading from others.
