Assign gear automatically (e.g. bike) based on activity profile

It would be nice if the gear used could be automatically assigned based on the activity profile used for the activity. For example, if the activity profile for MTB is used, your mountain bike is automatically assigned to the activity or if a road bike activity profile is used, your road bike is assigned. Could be the same for trail running VS road running.

What indicates what the activity profile is? Mostly Intervals.icu just gets an activity type like Cycling or Running or whatever, not much more than that.

I’m not sure about how this is written in the Fit file, but both Garmin and Strava diferenciate between road cycling/mtb and running/trail running depending on the activity profile you select on your device to record the activity. I though it would be very useful to add this functionality.

I might be able to get that from the sub_sport data in the fit file. Will have a look.

any updates on this yet? that would be awesome to classify between my tri bike (road), my gravel bike (gravel/unpave) and my fixie (commute)

Hi David!
I hope you be OK.
Please, any piece of news regarding this topic?
Currently, most of us have several bikes (MTB, road, indoor, gravel, etc…) with powermeter and would be great to have different activities profile/sub sport to locate them. As a consequence, I could analyze time spent in each individually, check FTP, etc…
So far, I´m using the “e-bike ride” activity profile as alternative for MTB.
Thank you for your time and help!
Cheers.

any chance we can map equipment to power meters itself?

Currently I’m running either an indoor setup (that should be easy)
or three different bikes, all fitted with power meters - so the data
in the fit file should be enough to separate those. As the power
meter used in that activity already shows up in the overview, so
it is already read/extracted.
