Alpine Skiing activities synced from Strava/Garmin are not deduplicated

I track my activities with a Garmin Forerunner 965. Garmin Connect syncs to Strava and Intervals.icu is connected to both Garmin Connect and Strava. Detection of duplicate activities has worked flawlessly - until now. And the problem only occurs for Alpine Skiing activities. It seems that Strava truncates the beginning of the activity to remove the lift ride up to the mountain. This results in two different activities in Intervals.icu as the activities appear different (although overlapping in time).

The following is an example:
https://intervals.icu/activities/i36071413 (linked to the Garmin activity)
https://intervals.icu/activities/11048423304 (linked to the truncated Strava activity)

Is this a bug - or is there something I can do to prevent it? I have not had this problem before so it seems that Strava has made a change on their side.

Those look very different to Intervals.icu so unfortunately I don’t think anything much can be done automatically. I don’t know if it makes sense to only start your Garmin after the ride up?

Thanks for checking. Not a big issue as I can just delete one of them.

I guess one mechanism to detect duplicate activities could be to check if they are overlapping in time as you wouldn’t be able to do several activities in parallel. Have you considered that?

Yes I have but then which one does Intervals.icu delete? It’s not safe to delete unless they really do look like the same activity. Better to let the user choose.

Yes, I see that. Thanks for your consideration.
