Aggregate all sports activities in Intervals instead of Strava?

For reasons rooted in past habits, I’ve been aggregating all my sports activities in Strava up until now. They then end up in Intervals via the Strava API. As far as I know, some information gets lost through the Strava API? That’s why I’m considering disconnecting Strava from Intervals and aggregating all my activities directly in Intervals. I also like Intervals’ open API and innovations.

  • I track my outdoor activities with Wahoo and occasionally with Garmin.
  • I track my indoor cycling sessions with Rouvy and occasionally with MyWoosh.
  • I track my gym strength training sessions with Hevy.
Wahoo   -->
Garmin  -->
Rouvy   -->  Strava --> Intervals.icu
MyWoosh -->
Hevy    -->

If I’m not mistaken, aside from Hevy, Intervals has official integrations with all of these platforms.
Hevy isn’t quite as important, though, since it’s only for strength training, if necessary, I can run the integration between Hevy and Intervals myself. And maybe the Hevy integration will be coming soon, too.

So is there any reason not to disconnect the link between Strava and Intervals and aggregate all activities directly in Intervals?

If you disconnect Strava, Intervals is forced to remove all historical data originating from Strava.
So better not do that before having checked that you have all your data from another source. Can be historical downloads from each source or the full Strava archive with your original data.

Regarding Hevy, there are a couple of user initiatives,

Okay, thanks for the important tip.
Could I connect both Strava and Intervals to all the platforms I use (Wahoo, Garmin, Rouvy…) and still keep the connection between Strava and Intervals? Or would I then have duplicates of all my activities in Intervals?

Direct sources will normally take priority over Strava activities and dedup. This is NOT the case for the same activity from multiple direct sources - those will create doubles. If you create connections in between sources, and take each source to Intervals, you will undoubtedly end up with unexpected behavior. So think about your strategy and your goal to set up the connections you need.
I would suggest to keep Strava connected, but simply no longer download activities from it.

Okay, if that’s an option.
So, should I uncheck all the boxes here in Strava’s settings?

Yes. That will keep your entire history and no longer depend on Strava for things happening from now on.

I’d probably go direct to Intervals too, especially if the official integrations preserve the activity details better than the Strava API. The only thing I’d check first is whether you lose any useful Strava features or data during the switch. Maybe test it with a few activities before disconnecting everything. The open API is a nice bonus if you need to handle Hevy separately.
