Hi I was wondering if eFTP could take into account the repeatability of the effort. For example I am currently in a threshold block and doing 3x20 at my threshold of 342w, but my eFTP is only sitting at 325 based off a singular 20 minute effort from the set. Is there a way for it to account for the fact the effort has been repeated multiple times?
Manually set FTP and ignore eFTP? I think it’s that easy.
For the 325W that you refer to, is that in the field Ride eFTP on the activity header (top right of screen)?
That is different from your actual eFTP on the power and settings pages.
The eFTP is a modelled value based on your best effort; then used to create your power duration curve.
Yeah but the main thing is that I’d like to see the model curve which it isn’t giving me because the eFTP is too low
How long are the rests on your 3x20 at threshold? Stating the obvious, but the shorter the rests the better chance of pushing up MMP over 20 minutes.
Trust me, I’d like to telepathically tell an algorithm that uses max efforts that I could have held it longer at certain durations
honestly once you get to 3x20 threshold it’s time to set aside a day where you test TTE
@Zhealy05 hey on the topic of playing around…
I took this 2x13-min threshold ride from earlier this year:
put into FitFileTools and removed the rest interval:
Uploaded to Intervals and got this new 1x26-min @ threshold:
Before:
After:
and calendar for 25 January 2024:
Would be really sweet to have an Intervals feature that allowed us to “play in a sandbox where we remove rest intervals and see what our eFTP would be if we tried it out on the road/trainer”
Don’t you agree?! ![]()
You can do that. You can zoom to the “rest” portion then do Actions → Fix data, fill in an offset to set the power:
To undo this you need to do Actions → Reprocess file.
Good info, easy to do and easy restore. Thank you!
Definitely feels like that would work in my example as it would turn
- 13-min @ FTP
- 6-min @ EASY
- 13-min @ FTP
into 32-min @ FTP by filling the 6-min easy into 6-min @ FTP. In my personal experience 30 to 50 minutes at ftp is reasonable, depending on my muscular endurance. So this example is fine for guesstimating power curve and ftp.
The original example it was 3x20-min at threshold, with a ? minute rest. If the rests were 10-min, converting 2 rests to threshold would be an 80-min time-to-exhaustion (TTW) which seems like an outlier effort. If rests were only 5-min, then its 70-min at threshold which is still in outlier territory.
Just pointing out that any guestimation task requires some consideration of believability.
