Strava activity visibility update

Thanks for the notification @david Once again Strava being Strava!!
We have a couple of riders who for some reason insist on connection to Intervals via Strava rather than Garmin (don’t ask!!) so this will be the final kick they need to change that.

So everything will stil sync, it just wont be visible for followers and coaches? Cant you afterwards just select the activities and make them visible, or is that not an option you can implement?

I’m surprised they have had a lock on live segments for so long. Surely it’s only a matter of time before someone else offers a similar service to garmin/wahoo for less.

This would be a great idea

I’m curious if I’ll still be able to view my friends’ fitness summary pages, if not their individual Strava workouts.

How do we set this up?

Yes that will still work.

No, that would be against the Strava API terms and conditions.

Each athlete needs to connect Garmin/Polar/Suuntu/Wahoo etc. in addition to Strava using the boxes on the /settings page. Zwift integration will be available soon.

They need to be able to sync to a cloud storage like Dropbox. I’ve never had my ICU a/c linked to Strava and originally was uploading my completed Wahoo workout to Dropbox and from there to Intervals

is there a connection to xert - intervals?

Will this lead to a power struggle when an athlete syncs via Source AND Strava the same activity? My data lands from Garmin into intervals.icu and then is matched to Strava, would this need to be hidden because it matches Strava or shared because it came from another source?

Not sure if it helps but I’m hearing Intervals mentioned in more and more places - I’m pretty sure that it was extensively discussed on a recent Lanterne Rouge Cycling Podcast about training and understanding training data.

No doubt Training Peaks will be happy about this change as-well :joy:

I guess it’s fair to assume that most people (all?) connect TrainingPeaks directly with their Garmin/Wahoo/Hammerhead head unit or indoor platforms like TrainerRoad/Zwift or Rouvy. So no data is fetched from Strava.

Hello friends ! Thank you for the information, David. Should the athletes I train make the direct call with intervals, right? Will this be done directly by the Strava platform or should it be by each athlete’s GPS? If it’s by GPS, some won’t have access!

Each Athlete will need to set up the direct connection themselves via authenticating with their respective Garmin / Suunto / Polar accounts and linking it

If your athletes does not have devices from any of the above companies, then yeah, you are right. some won’t have access / will need to manually do the upload to intervals.icu

That assumption would be incorrect as David has hit the Strava Rate limit multiple times and had to do some drastic actions prior to getting the Rate limit increased and then now this happens. So, yeah… quite a lot of users (either in intervals.icu or other platforms (see link above from dcrainmaker talking about Strava revoking access) are still using strava as the go-between. (something which is believed to be NOT in strava’s favor)

That’s exactly what I do. I import directly from Polar and IcTrainer. I would never dream of importing from Strava. For me, Strava only has a social function.

Tks app4g.

Would an integration with Rouvy be possible?

To alleviate that, could it be possible to have an “overwrite” facility for bulk imports ? For instance, if I import all my history from Garmin connect, it will erase the matching workouts from Strava, and make the workouts visible again ?

Yes that is how it works. Activities from Garmin etc. replace matching activities from Strava. Segments are copied across and the Garmin (etc.) activity is updated with the Strava ID so you can click through.

Intervals.icu will also keep the name, description and RPE of the Garmin (etc.) activity in sync with Strava if you tick the box in /settings:

If you would prefer to keep the Garmin (etc.) name then untick that box.

The best way to use Intervals.icu is to connect Strava and the original data source.

I have mailed them about this. I couldn’t find any mention of an API I could use online but there might be a private one.
