Connected Zwift to my otherwise dormant Garmin Connect account.
Once I have Strava Bulk uploaded here and confirm that Zwift is properly sending data to Garmin Connect, I’ll connect through there and disconnect from Strava for everything.
I have 7816 activities in Strava. With luck there will be none added after Dec 1, 2024.
I realized that I have all my activities were going to both Garmin and Strava: cycling (Garmin and Zwift), running (Garmin), and rowing (Concept2). Everything but running was coming into Intervals from Strava, so I’ve turned off Strava as a source of actvities. If everything now comes from Garmin, as I expect, I’m definitely cancelling my Strava subscription.
While I do like some of the premium features, like the heatmaps and routing when I go to a new place, it’s not worth the price to encourage anti-competitive behaviour like this. If Strava acts as DC Rainmaker suggests they could with these new terms, David’s going to have a hard time using it as a data source. Nice to see Ray giving credit to David for announcing the problem first.
I have contacted them but haven’t received a response yet. It is helpful if MyWhoosh users ask for the integration.
Thats exactly what Intervals.icu wants to be. That is why the API is open and everyone gets an API key.
Unfortunately not. Garmin does not pass on activities from non-Garmin devices to services like Intervals.icu. Direct Zwift integration with Intervals.icu is in progress. Right now you need to use Dropbox as a conduit.
@Nik_Om_Cinderella_Ri Well I said I USED it, not that I LIKED it However, for me the reason for using the route planner of Strava was the Veloviewer plugin; with that you could easily see if you have ticked a tile off - or not.
But since I did it long before without this plugin there will be for sure a life after Strave ;)! Thanks for the hint, will check it out. Also had a first look yesterday on ridewithgps
That’s infuriating as it will kill off a lot of small apps that I appreciate like Wandrer, Squadrats, ProBikeGarage and Veloviewer.
Strava is built upon the same freedom that they now dare to restrict for everyone else: To process the data they received from other sources and even monetize them. I could totally understand them to limit access to their processed data, e.g. Segments, or whatever limited analytics they do. But this is just a blatant attempt to kill off any 3rd party competition, especially the smaller ones.
Does anyone know of an open source effort to standardize API access to fitness data APIs, e.g. Garmin, Wahoo, Zwift, TrainerRoad etc.? The cycling community would benefit greately from such a project. It doesn’t make much sense for every data consumer to implement all these connections on their own. While bigger applications like Intervals, TrainerRoad, TrainingPeaks have the resources to do that, many smaller applications certainly don’t. It just adds so much unneccesary boilerplate to small projects, which is why Strava filled that hole in the first place.
I don’t believe TP pulls data from Strava so they will not be affected. It’s actually to TP’s benefit though as many coaching platforms or platforms like Xert and TR may struggle as they do “AI processing” which is also against the terms.
Not to mention Strava removing the ability to add URLs to posts. I, and others, used that feature to share information on when would be streaming races etc. My Wife even tried to create a post to highlight her charity ride for World Diabetes Day and couldn’t do that
While I’m not personally affected since Garmin is my primary data source, I find it absolutely outrageous what’s happening here. These are my data, which I voluntarily provide to Strava for their use. Therefore, it should be my choice what happens with these data and what doesn’t.
There should absolutely be options to determine how my data can and cannot be used via the API.
Even though, as mentioned, I’m not directly affected, I consider Strava’s actions extremely disrespectful. For this reason, I will be canceling my Strava Premium subscription. In my opinion, it has already lost its value for some time now, but this was the last straw.
Hopefully (even though I doubt it), enough users will cancel their subscriptions to make Strava realize that they can’t do whatever they want. They have no right to claim sole control over my data – data I only share with them for processing purposes.
In the short term will zwift activities synced to wahoo in turn sync to intervals?
Had anyone found a solution for syncing lezyne activities? It’s only a small proportion of my rides but works be nice to have those come over automatically without Strava
I have a question, if I download my activity (download a file) from Strava and upload it to Intervals will it be considered as violation their new rules?
