If you have both sources enabled, Garmin will take preference for the fit file (no duplicates). Some additional data from Strava, like segments, activity description, RPE, will be added.

Is there some way to put intervals’ calculated load and show it on my Garmin while I’m riding? Like some way to do that math and run it through a garmin connect app?

You are correct only if we mean “TSS” when talking about load AND that the riders are also the same weight. You’re presuming that course and time = work (different FTPs but same work != same TSS).

Rember, Intervals.ICU “Load” can be derived from power, HR, or pace, and there are three different models one can choose from to compute HR-based load.

> Aren’t TSS and training load sort of the same thing?

Only if you are using a power meter and your “Training Load Priority” setting in Intervals.ICU is set to “power” first and your Intervals.ICU FTP and Garmin FTP are the same.

> Is there some way to put intervals’ calculated load and show it on my Garmin while I’m riding? Like some way to do that math and run it through a garmin connect app?

Yes. As MedTechCD said, so long as your Intervals "Training Load Priority’ for “Rides” is set to “Power” first and your FTP is the same in Intervals and Garmin, then the “TSS” datafield on your Garmin device will display Intervals’ “Training Load”.

> All my data is collected with a garmin FR55 and a cheststrap.

The HR values don’t matter because you have your Intervals.ICU Training Load Priority set to Power, then Pace, and then HR. That means if you have Garmin Running Power (or a Stryd) then Intervals will use that, otherwise it will use your pace zones to compute load, and that means it will never use your HR zones to compute load for a run activity.

No I want to go the other way - I like Intervals math (it’s tougher on me) - I want to put that on my Garmin.

I’m frustrated getting off my bike, looking at my TSS and thinking I had a good ride, then looking at my load and being let down.

What “Intervals math” are you talking about?

You still haven’t said what your Intervals “Load” is based on.

Look at the summary from Garmin connect:

 ![image](https://forum.intervals.icu/uploads/default/original/3X/1/6/16f7cc9f1256995a1af01202a3d134ab8c71b7c4.png)

The yellow value is TSS and should exactly match what Intervals is calculating (if your load priority is set to Power first and your activity has Power data)
The green on is Garmin’s own way of calculating load and is based on Epoch.
You can’t compare or interchange those two because they are another way of measuring Load. The trend when using one or the other should be very similar, but you can’t mix them.
Your Garmin device can have a field for one or both. Just make sure that the field on your device is displaying TSS and NOT Exercise Load.

i mean fine but … why?

any app on my garmin device should just reference back to my account and post the same number on my garmin with the same math…?

"
Training Load Priority

Power, HR, Pace
"

again… DURING the workout, not after.

After, it’s just as easy to look at intervals instead of Garmin (actually easier bc Garmin’s reporting is terrible)

> Training Load Priority

> Power, HR, Pace

Ok then. So long as your FTP is the same in Garmin Connect as it is in Intervals.ICU then the TSS datafield on your Garmin device will show you, in real time, the same number you would see in Intervals.ICU as “load”.

…assuming you have a power meter.

If not, then you have your FTP set wrong somewhere.

Can we get the original TSS as a data field so that I can try and calibrate how much work I need to do?

I keep having this same struggle every day. My fitness is x today. How much work do I have to do to move it to y. This shouldn’t be a guessing game.

You can easily use the FITNESS page to determine what load you need to move from X to Y.

in fact, you can just add a workout to a day, like tomorrow, say you put a load of 200TSS/Load then you can see how much that changes your fitness for tomorrow.

then aim to do that TSS

This is what the FITNESS chart can do to help provide guidance.

I don’t find this to be true. It won’t be EXACTLY the same, perhaps +/-5-10 difference as both sites may a slightly different model of power smoothing if any.

Depends on pauses. If you have no pauses, difference is as good as 0. There’s only a very small difference in the model.
