One Training app to rule them all

I’m fairly sure that if you go to ‘Settings’ then click the little pencil above the current zones you can edit the %FTP thresholds for each. It doesn’t look like you can create more zones though. So if the 8020 zone model (never heard of it before now) has the same number of zones then you can just adjust the numbers in ICU to match.

On intervals.icu yes, but not on kudo.coach…

Custom zones have been much requested and are high up on the todo list. Currently you have to have 7 zones and can’t rename them but you can make the power ranges whatever you like.

I had some trouble with Safari and switched to Chrome and it seems to be better there.

Ahh I see. I didn’t scroll far enough up to see the whole context!

Great, thanks… If the %FTP is editable that will work for me.

For anyone interested, the 80/20 cycling zone calculator can be found here -

Scroll…

You have a summary/planning of your current week, click on each day and you have suggestions for your workout.

PS: what are your reasons to dump Xert ?

I tried with Brave and had a warning about the web Bluetooth API not being enabled (similar problem with Firefox). So unable to connect the sensors and HT. I will see if Chrome does a better job (as well as Vivaldi, as I read somewhere that if was enabled on the mobile version, but not on the desktop…)

Edit: the API is enabled and working in Vivaldi ! :+1:

Yeah, I get that, but it’s assuming a TL of 220 for a weekly target. I’m a wee bit higher than that…

You can adjust your week TL by clicking the button on the top-right.

Probably. Already too many things to look for and manually adjust.

It may be cheaper than Xert, definitely cheaper than others, but I guess I’m done trying.

Just curious, as you brought it up, but I should stop doing things like that :sunglasses:

So… What’s your alternative for Xert ?

Sorry, I missed that. It’s the best tool I’ve seen so far and the concept / methodology is ahead of the field, but I pretty much do ‘my own thing’ and that means I’m throwing money down the drain.

It also doesn’t meet my needs, typically multi-day events and lots of ‘outside the box’ training methods.

I’d rather upgrade my intervals.icu Patreonage, or whatever it’s called :sunglasses:

Nothing :joy:

What I would miss from Xert, is the permanent calculation of my signature, so that I know what part to improve, and by how much I should push the watts.

Super actual conversation here. I have been struggling on how to proceed for myself and my athletes.
TrainingPeaks and WKO4 have been the tool of the trade for a while, but they have really lagged behind on too many things (and I voiced my concerns at the Endurance Coaching Summit last year with Dirk Friel and others). They don’t seem to be responsive, their market is mostly triathletes/IM and for the most part their tools work for that.
Last year did a pilot run on Xert, with one athlete. Their tools are good, but still missing lots of features for helping coaches, including training plans, libraries for workouts (everything is in one folder) and day by day communication tools.
They are great for self coached athletes that don’t care about having a plan…

The recent introduction of training plans, workout libraries and the already phenomenal analysis tools in Intervals.icu had popped up in my radar.

There are so many things I like, but most of all David is such a talented coder and has a real sense for simple and intuitive UI and data visualization.
The platform runs seamlessly on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android, good communication tools. Every issue gets attention and gets fixed quickly: I honestly don’t know how he does it. There are feature requests I had open with Wahoo/SufferFest for months, he get’s it done overnight (kudos!)

I’m going to skip WKO5 (I’m developing python tools for ultra specific analysis instead) and downgrade TrainingPeaks to free, at least until we have direct sync with Wahoo and some parity with Garmin Connect.

As far as Xert, I plan to keep supporting them, Armando is a great guy and they are doing good work, but I think this is going to be my platform for 2021.

I would like to continue to (financially) support Xert, if they’d offer something like a Patreon contribution.

I’m not skipping any meals for continuing to pay in full, but it does feel a bit silly to do so.

True, but to be honest, at my age, with my experience and my ‘usual’ events, I don’t really need that.

I just need to keep track of a few things, beyond what Strava or Garmin offer and I’ve found that here.

I highly doubt there would be “one” app/site that would rule them all so to speak. Diff sites/apps will have diff features etc depending on what “you” like/want.

It’s mostly pick and choose and follow your wallet.

For me, I am using TP (Free) for 1 and only 1 feature - The Weekly TSS view.
i’ve paid for TrainerRoad then found that it’s really quite expensive (dismal exchange rate) for the things I want to do (and at that time, I didn’t even have a smart trainer / power meter)

Lockdown, paid 2 months Zwift, enjoyable (again, dismal exchange rate) but nearly always overly fatigue. (My Fault). I like to join the events/races and got pushed by testosterone.

After that, TrainerDay came out, I tried it but it didn’t support my trainer so that was a bummer. (This was actually the catalyst)

So, started developing something of my own. (BreakAway: Indoor Training). Now I use this and now coupled w/ intervals.icu API Access, it’s really quite good to have planning/calendaring pulled into BreakAway for execution. Totally different ball game vs having the planned workouts in Dropbox.

There are so many tools available today, I think the biggest problem is whether you can have a reasonable training plan, which is why I continue to subscribe to trainerroad, they have a large database of workouts and plans
