Hi,

Would be great if one could add more than one gear item to an activity.
For example, a trail runner might add shoes, backpack, poles, etc. OR a mountaineer wants to add shoes, backpack, rope, harness, crampons, etc.

Thanks a lot,
Florian

Exactly! From a user point of view this would make gear tracking a lot better! There have been several similar requests over the last years without any results, thus I guess from DEV side it is not that easy to implement?
I cannot get around creating multiple iterations of the same gear with different components (e.g. bike A with wheels A and shoes A, Bike A with wheels C and shoes B, etc). It would be a mess creating all frequently used combinations. Being able to add multiple gear would be the solution as I love tracking usage rates of all my gear meticulously.

Indeed I’d love to have this feature.

Going a bit deeper, perhaps the difficulty would be to define what type of metric would be tracked by “Other Gears”, leaning on @Florian_Potschka example, for “backpack, and poles” we would track the amount of hours used or the KMs?

for “rope, and crampons” what do we track?

I’d definitely love to have something generic that would track the amount of hours used at least.

for ropes or mountaineering boots - Elev. gain (Height Meters) and Time used would be the way to go I would say …
(ropes in general very hard to track as you have to check for wear and then decide individually if it’s still OK or not … as with every PSA)
As for my mountaineering boots: tracking kilometers doesn’t make much sense for me—these boots usually wear out after a certain amount of vertical meters, not after as many kilometers as running shoes.

Just chiming in…I have a smart trainer and my bike that I sue for the trainer, but also for rides.

I’d like to track the wear on the bike and the use I get out of the trainer independently.

So one is not a component of the other.

Being able to set them both as defaults for “TrainerRoad” rides would also be peaches.

Well, the solution is to make an indoor gear with your bike and trainer as components.
And an outdoor gear with only your bike as gear.
Then you can track each component individually.

I would be very happy if it were possible to select multiple pieces of equipment for one activity. Unfortunately, using gear with multiple components isn’t an option for me. On another platform, I currently track the following:

- 6 different pairs of shoes
- poles (Yes/No)
- backpack (Yes/No)
- dog with me (Yes/No)

That would already mean 48 different combinations. And it would be a total mess if I removed or added a pair of shoes.

In fact, that’s one of the main reasons why I still have to use the other platform.

I am in a similar situation, unfortunately it seems there are no plans to develop into this direction as there was no feedback for a long time.

@embear may I ask which other platform you use for tracking gear? Is it free? Is it good? How does it work?

Before I discovered intervals.icu I used [Tredict](https://www.tredict.com) as my training platform. I like the platform as it has a really clean design. It also has some features that I did not find somewhere else. For example the ability to track injuries and illnesses and how they developed over time. Or the concept of revisions for FTP, LTHR etc.

It is not free but uses a prepaid model instead of a subscription. There is also a “free” version, but that is read only and thus not very useful.

Sadly the project seems to be in a maintenance mode and did not get any relevant improvements over the last two years. That’s why I’d like to switch to intervals.icu completely.

Did you find a solution to track your gear or did you stick with the other platform for tracking it?

I’m currently still using tredict, but I hope this feature will soon be available for intervals as well. However, there are probably more important features and limited developer resources.

I just gave Garmin’s gear tracking another chance and it seems like it was much improved since I last tried it.

You can now add several single gear items as well as predefined gear collections (grouped gear). It basically allows us to do what we asked for here. It still could be improved but for now I guess it is the closest thing this thread is looking for.

So if you are using Garmin it might be worth looking into it. I would love to have a similar solution here as I don’t track and sync everything via Garmin though.

To add to this. I have Garmin gear collection that has my bike frame and my smart trainer (both stored as bikes).

Both get added by default to my indoor rides in Garmin (via the collection as the default for the activities) as expected and their respective mileage and duration tracking increases. I don’t have a way to do this neatly in Intervals.

I want to be able to track the frame and the trainer separately so I know how much work both have done. The bike frame predates the trainer so already had miles on it and may occasionally get disconnected from the trainer and used separately.
