I'm a sheep....🐑(not a GOAT!)

So, here’s the deal. I’ve started biking for recreation, and then went of and started doing Half-Distance Triathlons (4x) - after some super-sprint and sprint distances.

The thing is, I love looking at the metrics, and seeing the right numbers go up and the right numbers go down, but I always rely on something/someone else to define a training plan for me.

I’ve done the following throughout the years:

  • TrainerRoad
  • Xert (the XATA thing, but it is terrible if you’re training for more than just cycling, which tbh, it’s not something I’m doing these days. I just bike)
  • Zwift’s training plans
  • Was coached (interesting experience, but I don’t think the guy cared much I had to train for run/swim, and my self selected cadence is on the low side)

they all had their + and -, but I’m a sheep, I don’t care much about where it comes from, I just want to execute, and I don’t have the knowledge to design my own plans/pull workouts together, except making sure that my Form % doesn’t go too deep into the red (when I can shuffle exercises throughout a week).

the way I do today is, I follow some plan (right now I’m on Zwift’s Build Me Up), and then on my weekend outside ride, I try to smash my MPA/TTE (Xert term, basically exhaust my W’Bal so I can get a breakthrough). If I do get a breakthrough, I update my FTP on Zwift so that the plan can become accordingly harder.

Adding insult to injury, with life happening, it’s not like I have a specific Triathlon event I want to smash, but I do want to go back to my cycling peak, and I think it’s coming, but I do wonder how you all tackle this.
