Garmin asks me how many kCalories I ate and how many water bottles I drank when I’m saving an activity. Only the kCalories seems to be exposed by intervals.icu, though. Why isn’t there a field displaying “fluid consumed”?

It may not be exported by Garmin.
If that is the case, you can create a custom field and fill it in choosing the record field.

There’s a field called “Fluids in”.

I’ve tried using the field, but it doesn’t populate. I’ve also tried setting it to:
179
fluid\_consumed
fluid consumed
It always ends up blank. I’ve pulled the FIT file for the activity I’m working with, and it has a number in the field.

It’s easier to troubleshoot specific settings.
Have you reprocessed the activity/ies where you want to apply this?

Single activity - Actions, Reprocess file

Here is the field definition:

Here is the summary view of the activity after reprocessing (I’ve initiated the reprocess both ways):

I’ve also tried uploading the FIT file again in case it’s somehow corrupt.

(I’ve changed this to a bug report since it seems like a bug in the FIT file parser)

I tried finding this field using a script, and it looks like the field list for Session inside the FIT file is incomplete. FitFileViewer shows 64 fields in the Session section, but I only count 54 fields when running this script:
{
let s = icu.fit?.m\_18?.[0];
if (!s) {
console.log(‘no session message’);
} else {
console.log(‘field count:’, s.length, ‘| keys on a field:’, Object.keys(s[0]).join(‘,’));
console.log(s.map((x, i) =\> i + ‘:’ + (x.name ?? x.num)).join(’ '));
s.filter(x =\> x.num === 179 || x.num === 177 || /fluid|calor|17[79]/i.test(String(x.name)))
.forEach(x =\> console.log(‘HIT’, x.name, x.num, x.value ?? x.getValue?.()));
}
}

output:
ield count: 54 | keys on a field: getNumValues,getIsAccumulated,getValueName,getName,toString,getValue,getUnits,getNum
0:timestamp 1:start\_time 2:start\_position\_lat 3:start\_position\_long 4:total\_elapsed\_time 5:total\_timer\_time 6:total\_distance 7:total\_cycles 8:nec\_lat 9:nec\_long 10:swc\_lat 11:swc\_long 12:end\_position\_lat 13:end\_position\_long 14:total\_work 15:sport\_profile\_name 16:enhanced\_avg\_speed 17:enhanced\_max\_speed 18:training\_load\_peak 19:message\_index 20:total\_calories 21:avg\_power 22:max\_power 23:total\_ascent 24:total\_descent 25:first\_lap\_index 26:num\_laps 27:normalized\_power 28:training\_stress\_score 29:intensity\_factor 30:left\_right\_balance 31:threshold\_power 32:unknown 33:avg\_vam 34:enhanced\_avg\_respiration\_rate 35:enhanced\_max\_respiration\_rate 36:enhanced\_min\_respiration\_rate 37:metabolic\_calories 38:event 39:event\_type 40:sport 41:sub\_sport 42:avg\_heart\_rate 43:max\_heart\_rate 44:avg\_cadence 45:max\_cadence 46:total\_training\_effect 47:trigger 48:avg\_temperature 49:max\_temperature 50:avg\_fractional\_cadence 51:max\_fractional\_cadence 52:total\_anaerobic\_training\_effect 53:min\_temperature

Here is the same file in FitFileViewer showing all 64 fields:

</div>

I tried looking at some other rides, and the field is populating properly just using 179 as the FIT file field. There must be something in the FIT file I was using to test that is causing a parsing issue (activity i198117200).

I think you missed the hint that Garmin is filtering data recently

> [@Garmin FIT fields not coming in (Possible Garmin is Filtering Data prior to sending to intervals.icu)](https://forum.intervals.icu/t/garmin-fit-fields-not-coming-in-possible-garmin-is-filtering-data-prior-to-sending-to-intervals-icu/124287/51):
>
> from runalyze forum: mipapo: Garmin says: “Garmin has recently made over 100 new fields publicly documented and all messages and fields previously documented in the FIT SDK are still available. Undocumented messages and fields are removed before files are sent to third-party platforms. The original file can still be downloaded from Garmin Connect.”

You can check by comparing fit file from intervals and fit file from Garmin.
